Teaching

Below are the courses I have taught at Colgate:

  1. FSEM 133/ CORE S194: Electron & Our Civilization (Fall – 2021, 2022, 2024) – I developed this course for students across the campus to help them learn about the past, present, and future of electronics which has essentially transformed human civilization. The first half of this course deals with the history of the development of the electronic world as we know it and the stories behind the individuals who made major discoveries associated with electromagnetism that changed the world. The second half of the course deals with current issues associated with electronics and the way forward. We discuss about issues such as electronics for energy and transportation, mining for electricity and batteries, geopolitics and economy of electronics, electronic waste, and sustainable electronics, current research problems in electronics, and future outlook.
  2. PHYS 233: Introductory Electricity & Magnetism (Fall- 2020, 2021, 2022, 2024) – This introductory level course with labs deals with the study of electrostatics and magnetostatics leading to the development of the integral form of Maxwell’s equations.
  3. PHYS 334: Introductory Quantum Mechanics & Relativity (Spring- 2021, 2022, 2023) – This intermediate level course deals with concepts of special relativity such as time dilation, length contraction, and velocity transformation and their applications in momentum and energy conservation. The course then covers the motivation for the development of quantum mechanical principles and the application of the Schrodinger equation in various 1D and 3D potentials.
  4. PHYS 336: Electronics (Spring 2024): This intermediate level with labs introduces students to various digital and analog electrical components and circuit principles. The first half of the semester is focuses on digital electronics while the second half focuses on analog electronics. The students complete rigorous lab activities with the course and cap off each half of the semester with open-ended projects.
  5. PHYS 410: Advanced Topics & Experiment (Fall- 2020, 2022, 2024) – This is a senior seminar course where graduating seniors work on certain research problems and write their senior thesis based on their research findings.
  6. PHYS 432: Electromagnetism (Spring- 2021, 2022, 2023) – This upper-level course deals with the study of electrostatics and magnetostatics leading to the development of the differential form of Maxwell’s equations through the application of the divergence theorem and Stokes’ theorem.
